I don’t know this for sure, but it does work pretty well. I suspect that a lot of theaters actually pop their popcorn in the same oil that they use for topping, probably because it’s cheaper than coconut oil. Liquid popcorn oils – you can pop, but best for topping.

When you think of movie theater popcorn, the color is as much a part of the experience as the flavor. Regular coconut oil will work just fine, and taste the same as the colored ones, unless you get one with butter flavor added. My local grocery stores don’t have this but you may be able to find something similar at a specialty shop, like this Amish Country version, which is basically the same. You can get it in a small container or a one gallon jug on Amazon. Not really, but you can tell yourself that if you want.
